I truly believe that I have the most wonderful job in the world. Not many people can say that their job is to make people happy. I get to witness so many incredible interactions and moments between people. My "work" is to give you memories captured, knowing that one photograph can bring you joy for years. Few, if any, photographers will admit that they themselves do not enjoy being photographed - which means that I do my best to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. I am also blessed and honored to form long-lasting friendships with so many of the people whose weddings and portraits I do: wedding couples come back with their first child (and then more kids!) for a family portrait, family portrait clients come back year after year.
My style, if you will, is to capture events and moments as they happen, and to do so in a spontaneous, unpressured and enjoyable manner, with the emphasis always on you being you. I’ve been complimented for taking "those family shots" after the ceremony in a "painless", efficient and organized manner and for getting the couple back to their party with plenty of time to enjoy their guests and their wedding. I believe you should be at your own wedding, not hanging out with your photographer. I like to photograph with a sense of place so that you will remember where the photograph was taken, what the weather was like, how the light looked. Since the majority of my work is done on Martha’s Vineyard, I feel it’s important to share my love of this place.
I’ve been working as a wedding and portrait photographer for 12 years. My fascination with my family photo albums must have been what drew me into my profession. What an incredible thing to be able to record special times and magic experiences for people! My studio and life are based on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard, where I live with my fiance and my adorable chocolate lab, but my work takes me everywhere and anywhere: from Italy to South Bend to New York to Miami to Boston and places in between.
I graduated from Smith College and worked in the Curatorial Department of Photography at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City for over three years after college. I left the Museum to live and work in Mexico for a short while, studying Spanish and working at the Centro Cultural de Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City. I returned to New York and held a few marketing positions in media companies before giving up city life to move to the Vineyard and start my own full-time photography business.
sense of spirit. sense of humor. sense of style.
Those words sum up my life philosophy and my work. I want you to be able to look at your photographs now and in years to come and think, "That’s not just how we looked, that’s how we felt." I look forward to being able to do that for you.
